Barbara Penland-LaFevers- Attorney and Counselor at Law
More Than Just an Attorney-Barbara is a stone catcher
Barbara Penland-LaFevers is an Attorney and Counselor of the Law who lives her life to serve others as a "stone catcher." This stone catching Attorney stands in the gap between those who are condemning and those who are condemned, offering mercy and compassion instead of judgment and punishment. The use of the term, "stone catcher" is inspired by a phrase coined by Attorney, Bryan Stevenson, who authored the book, "Just Mercy." The term is inspired by the biblical passage where Jesus tells those about to stone an adulterous woman to cast the first stone only if they are without sin.
Barbara began her solo practice in September 2018. Prior to starting her own practice, Barbara practiced law as an Associate Attorney with the law firm Bulloch, Fly, Hornsby and Evans. Additionally, Barbara was a law clerk for many years to the Honorable Robert E. Corlew, III, Chancellor for the 16th Judicial District.
Barbara was born and raised in Middle Tennessee. She received her bachelor degree, cum laude, from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee. She also received her Juris Doctorate from the Nashville School of Law where she was a member of the Honor Counsel Society, Nashville School of Law Legal Society, and Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
She is a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Rutherford and Cannon County Bar Associations, Coffee County Bar Association, Middle Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women, and Murfreesboro Noon Lions Club. She is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America, United States District Courts for the Middle District of Tennessee, and all State Courts in Tennessee.
